Help with Firmware.
« on: June 07, 2013, 06:52:02 PM »

Hi all.

I live in Hong Kong and have had my DIR-655 for a few years at home. It's been a great router.
I want to move it to my office and set up a "Guest" Wi-Fi account.

When I go into my routers set up menus, I can't find any "Guest" menu.

After spending hours looking through different help guides I came to the conclusion that I might need to do a Firmware upgrade (As I have never done one since I have had the router). After navigating to the Hong Kong site of D-Link, and going to support, all it gives me is the Importers details and noting else, which makes me thing there are no upgrades for the Hong Kong version. But if I go to the US site, or the UK site, there are update links. They also showed different firmware levels. So I'm a bit confused.

I know this might sound stupid, but I'd like to know if I can use a firmware upgrade from another D-Link country, site?

Or how can I get the Guest application for my router?

Kind Regards
Tim

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

Its always recommended to use the same regional FW located for your region. Using other regional FW can results in improper operation of the router. If you need additional help on what FW version to use, Please phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask.

Good morning

Hardware version is A1

Current Firmware Version : 1.02

Current Firmware Date : 2006/10/13

Latest Firmware Version : 1.02

Thanks for the two links you posted.

The first is the one I have been looking at many times, as as you will see it just gives sales numbers and no help or support desk.

The second link is all in Chinese as it's a Taiwanese site.

So, I'm still back to square one.

I can see from other support pages that they show a 'Guest" account under the Advanced setting in the wireless section of the router screen. Mine doesn't have this. I just want to be able to get this addition so I can use the router for guests and assumed that a firmware update would add this.

I just went around the Taiwanese site and found this for Version 1 hardware. Some parts open up with some English in them:

DIR655A4_FW135EAB02Beta
Dated 2011.

This looks to be the one and only update for my Router here in HK.

If I can't get the "Guest" account working on the Router, I'll have no option but to go and buy another one, but it won't be another D-Link....

Regards
Tim
