Problem with email settings
« on: June 05, 2013, 11:43:30 PM »

Hello,

Just got my DCS-5222L and am having real problems getting the smtp email to work. I've tried Gmail, iCloud and Hotmail/Outlook addresses without any success - every test email is a failure.

I am on the latest firmware and I've triple checked the settings I've used with each service

For example, Gmail:

server: smtp:gmail.com
port: 587
SSL-TLS
username and sender's email: myname@gmail.com
password - the account's correct password

My firewall is set to allow all outbound traffic and the email addresses I've used are all valid and working

I used the same settings on my previous camera, which the 5222L has replaced. They worked fine on the old camera, which was a Foscam

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks PKM17, I have tried port 465, also no luck.

I have tried everything I could think of, more than once. Overall happy with the camera, this is the only thing I haven't been able to do. It's annoying as email alerts are one of the features I need the most. There's got to be a solution, just haven't come up with it yet

Problem solved. After digging through these forums for email setup problems, found a thread that suggested I check my DNS settings on the camera, so they match my router. The setup wizard didn't fill them in, so I copied them from my router so they matched and now it is working. The camera is sending emails now

Very happy with this camera, it is 1000x better than the Foscam FI 9821W that it replaced.

Thanks for sharing that tip.  I'll add that to our FAQ board posts.  BTW, what was the original thread you referenced with that solution?

This is the thread that helped me

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=14485.0

It is about a different model, but helped point me in the right direction

Hmmm, that is surprising. Many people are not, and have issues with it.

People expect too much for the sensor size attached to this camera.

I wouldn't mind the 2230 sensor attached to the 5522L....and upgrade the 5222L hardware to handle it.. but that would probably not reach a dlink price point at $350 and wouldn't sell....

so we have to deal with trade offs, and crap from it.
