USB storage works great, But...
« on: June 14, 2013, 10:33:38 AM »

Hello everyone. I have a newDIR-645 and all works great except for one problem. I have a USB HDD attached to the USB. Shareport is fine and I have it as a mapped drive and all is good except every 2-3 days I have to reboot the router because the mapped drive becomes not accessible. As soon as I reboot the router the drive is available again on both computers and works great for another couple days.

Firmware is 1.03 hardware is A1

I'm just wondering if there is a time out or lease setting I might be missing somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Only thing I could think of is that your USB drive has a sleep function that for some reason is not being woke up when something tries to access it. The drive is wake during times when it's accessed, then after a period of time, possibly, the drive spins down and can't be accessed or the triggers are not able to wake the drive correctly until the router is rebooted.[/list]

That makes sense. I'll see if I can search for some information on the drive itself. I can probably also test the theory by unplugging and reconnecting the USB HDD next time it loses connection instead of rebooting the router.
Oh, an I'm in Upstate, NY
Thanks!

Well it dropped the USB mapped drive again but this time it was 5 days. I first tried unplugging and reconnecting just the USB, but it didn't work. Rebooting the DIR-645 fixed it as usual. Oh well, 5 days isn't bad maybe a future firmware will help at some point.

You could try the v1.04 FW version that just came out.  ;)
