DIR-655 Smart TV issues
« on: June 28, 2013, 01:17:20 PM »

I had no problems with my router until I bought a new MacBook Air.  Had wireless connection issues with it which were fixed when I changed to WPA2.  However, now my smart tv (Sharp LC-40LE830U) won't connect.  I tried setting the network up again.  Occasionally connects and can find my network, but won't get anywhere with Netflix, etc.

I haven't ever updated the firmware.  If I try that do I need to just updated to the latest version or do I need to do all upgrades in order?

If I go back to WPA my mac won't work and it's not as secure.  Suggestions?

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

I would verify what your Smart TV supports as in WiFi modes and security modes(WPA or WPA2 and TPIK and AES support). Please refer to the Mfr for information regarding this. Then set up your router appropriately.

Most newer Apple products support WPA2 and AES.

Hardware version A1.  Firmware 1.02.  Will try mixed G and N, no option for single N.  It was on a mix of all.  WPA2 AES.  It is supported by my TV, I just checked the specifications.  Region- Southeast US, North Carolina.
