Connect Xbox 360 to DNS-321
« on: February 13, 2009, 11:24:31 AM »

I'm unable to see my DNS-321 from my xbox 360. When I go through the xbox 360 dashboard and get to video library, select PC, it gives the message "no PCs with Windows Media Center are connected". If I click setup, then it gives me some verification code to enter in on a PC running Windows Media Center.

I am able to connect to the DNS-321 from my PC using upnp.

I'm assuming it's a problem between the chair and the keyboard/xbox controller ... what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Vitals:
xbox 360 is wired and up-to-date, but I've never connected it to a Windows Media Center
PC is running Windows XP, wireless
DNS-321 firmware v1.01, wired
All three devices are connecting to the same router, ranges 192.168.2.x

Make sure your xbox is up to date.

Go to My Xbox, select MY Videos My Music or MY Photos...bottom of the list should be something that says DLINK-###### where ###### is = to the last 6 digits of the MAC address on your DNS-321. Select it and access your content.

Thank you. I found that the firmware update disables the upnp server by default (v1.00 had it on by default). My Windows XP machine was still able to see it - not through upnp but by mapping the network drive.
After enabling the upnp server again, the xbox 360 saw the dns-321 just as you described. Thanks again.

I am having a pretty strange problem and hoping for some help.  I can see my DNS-321 on my Xbox 360 but when I access it, none of the videos show up.  I've tried shortening the names of the videos, putting them in different folders, but they wont show up.  I also have put the exact same videos on my laptop and can access them on my xbox through my laptop so I know they are supported file types.  Any advice??

I'm having the same strange problem you're having ncardillo.  The only difference is that I can view some movie trailers on the xbox360 that I have, but can't see the full movies.  The trailers are converted from AVI to HDWMV.  The full movies are the same.  I "was" able to see the movies before and everything worked for about a month, but now I can only see the trailers.

I moved one movie into a seperate folder of its' own and that movie worked.  I did the samething to another movie and it didn't work.

I'm not sure what is happening.  Need advice PLEASE!!!

The DEV guys are aware. Others of us (including myself) are having the same problem. Posted messages in the Beta forum as well, and trying each new release as they are made available.

The only thing at present I can think of to help is:
Shorter Directory Names
Shorter FileNames
Filenames without special Characters (&,+,!, = and so on). Keep the naming simple
Fewer Levels of Directories
Compatible video format and size in AVi, WMV or MP4 (Requires XBL).
