DCS-932L Dissassembly?
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:40:59 AM »

Anyone with experience opening the plastic case of the DCS-932L camera?

I want to access the led's - maybe replace them with truly invisible ones, or add an external led ring for better viewing.

I'm not worried about the warranty, I just want access to the inside circuitry with the minimum of cosmetic damage.

Any experience/advice is welcome...

There were images at some point, but I don't recall where those posts are.  Here is a sticky post that illustrates the DCS-932L already opened up. You can see the tabs on the case, which may help you visualize how to proceed: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52839.0

This will void your warranty!  Try this at your own risk.  I am not telling you how to do this to your camera, I am telling you how I did it to mine!

Yes, thanks, that is all I needed to get started.  Using the standard iPhone repair tools, I was able to open the camera without leaving a mark. First, look at the referenced pictures for the location of the tabs.  Using a thin guitar pic, press/pry between the white plastic top, and the bottom.  Notice that the silver band is a part of the bottom. Once you have a slight separation of the two parts, use a plastic pry-bar to further widen the bottom away from the top - being careful not to break the tab(s).  Continue down the case side using the guitar pic and sliding the pry bar along with you.  A little coaxing and fingernail action, and you are there!

If you want to post disassembly instructions, I can post them on our Network Camera FAQ board (if you're up to it!)  ;)

Sure.  That could save a few broken cases and fingernails.
Also, it would make it more permanent.  My posting on my site was meant to be short term.
Over the weekend, I will do it again and take more (and clearer) pics, along with a description of each step.  Should I post this on my web site for your retrieval, or "zip" it all up and ship it to you?

One of the challenges we're faced with is that D-Link presently does not provide access to a server for long term storage. We rely on images posted public image hosting sites and then link off of those. It's unfortunate, because the longevity of the images is not guaranteed.
