Currently my DNS-320 has a 1TB and a 640GB drive in it.
I want to upgrade my 1TB to a 2TB and then replace my 640GB with my 1TB.
Currently Movies on 1TB, TV shows on 640GB.
So is best practice to pull out the 1TB, put in the 2 TB, then using my PC transfer data from 1TB to the 2TB.
Then pull out my 640GB and put in 1TB and then again use PC to transfer over files to the 1TB from the 640GB.
Is this best?
Currently running original FW, no issues so why upgrade

Simple answer assuming you are using windows OS.

1)  Download and install FileZilla on your PC.
2)  Beg, borrow or find a spare 1.5 TB to 2TB storage space.
3)  Make sure the FTP server is setup and active on the DNS-320
4)  Use FileZilla to transfer the data from the DNS-320 to storage space/drive.
5)  Pull both drives from the 320 and replace with the new drives.
6)  Use the 320 to format and set up the new drives.
7)  Use FileZilla to transfer the data from the storage space/drive back to the 320.

Doing it this way gets round the need for having software that can read Ext2/3 file system of the DNS-320 drives and having a USB/SATA caddy to mount each drive taken from the 320.  There is also the fact that FTP is much faster than using the win OS built in file manager for transferring files.

If you are using a Linux OS then you can simplify the process because it can read the drives directly so it would be:
1)  May already be installed.

7)  except you would use the old drives in place of the storage space/drive.
