email alerts not working
« on: May 22, 2009, 07:18:24 AM »

similar problem here as i'm having on the ntp settings.

i duplicate the same settings that i'm using on the 323/343 to enable email alerts, and schedule them to go out daily.

[INFO]   Fri May 22 07:13:36 2009   Failure sending log email - try again in 8 minutes
[INFO]   Fri May 22 07:09:36 2009   Failure sending log email - try again in 4 minutes
[INFO]   Fri May 22 07:07:36 2009   Failure sending log email - try again in 2 minutes
[INFO]   Fri May 22 07:07:36 2009   Sending log email after administrator request

what's different on this unit that i need to change?

drick, see my post in response to your NTP topic (could be firmware related).

What are your current settings for this feature?

Does your email provider require authentication when sending emails and do you currently have that enabled?

I usually have my router set up to send the log when it's full and never had an issue.  I just set up a test with the email log going out on a daily schedule and it worked just fine for me.

i cloned the same settings that i'm using on the dns's.

notification enabled
to email 1
from email 2
smtp.isp.com
server port is set to the correct one used by my isp
account name is email 1
password is my isp pw

log full is selected
schedule is selected
and schedule is set to daily at 12

Based on your post, I've assumed email 1 and email 2 are two different accounts.  If this is the case, and your sending to email 1 from (through) email 2 then the account name should be from email 2 and not email 1.  Therefore, the smtp, server port, and password would also be set for email 2.

I have everything set up the same except my router has the to and from set to the same email address.

close..

they are actually the same email account, but one is an alias to the other.

so in essence i'm sending it to and from myself just like you are

It sounds like you have everything setup correctly.  The only other thing I can think of is whether it has to do with the newer firmware v1.11.  Like I've said I have v1.01 installed on my router w/o problems so I'm not sure were the problem might lie.

Did you setup/config the router prior to loading v1.11 and then reloaded the saved config file after the upgrade?  Or did you upgrade the firmware prior to seting up the router?

I believe D-Link is now recommending reseting the router after the installation of firmware v1.11 followed by a manual setup of the router (not using the saved config file).

Sorry, wish I could've been more help.

I have an 825 with firmware 1.01.  I am having the exact same problems with email (and NTP).  I have tried the email function with multiple accounts/hosts (ISP, Gmail, etc.) - same issue.  Has anyone figured out the solution to this yet?
