Hello,

I have a 645, HW verion A1 and FW: 1.01.  The problem is a Daylight Savings Time issue for the Southern Hemisphere.  It's simple to reproduce.

Summer for us is December, January & February.  Thus our DST times are First Sunday in October and Last Sunday in March.  That is generally speaking.  The government changes there minds and usually extends DST to some degree.

First issue.  I can't select the 30th day.  The pick list limits me to the 1st to the 4th.  Can this please be changed to let the user choose any day of the month.

Second issue.  Whilst I can select start DST is October, and last DST is March (and choose the 1st for both months), when I click enable DST, the time is advanced by 1 hour, meaning DST is on *right now*.  I know why, because the current month is August, and the dlink programmers probably assumed that if months is in April to September, turn DST on.  This should be fixed.

I have downloaded FW 1.04.  I didn't see any fixes for DST in the list.  I will install it a bit later.

A workaround could be to use NTP.  This 645 does not have any internet access.  I could use ntp from my workstation, but if it changes it's IP address, then ntp will no longer work for the 645.  Currently, the date is manually set and I'll change the time when DST starts.

Oh, this issue also affects my 505, and I suspect all d-link products which use the same code base.

Could someone please confirm?

Thankx.

Link>Welcome!
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Hi FurryNutz,

I am located in Australia.

This device is not connected to the internet, so no ISP is involved.

Do you have a 645?  Can you try something for me?  Set your daylight savings time to December to February, then, set your clock back 1 hour, to simulate a non-DST time, then enable DST.  Your clock should advance by 1 hour, because it's currently August.

Thankx.

Well you could try putting the 645 online, even if it's not the main host router, you could use the WAN connection to get correct time. I don't have my 645 online at the moment, been working with other routers.  ;)

Thankx for the suggestion, but unfortunately, that is not an option.  I wouldn't wait for your 645 to come online, I'd just pick any currently running D-Link AP that you have and try setting the timezone.

I think most of the Time features are dependent upon having use of the WAN port or manually settings the time.

It has been recommended that to get time correctly set on a router thats in AP mode, you can still connect a LAN cable to the WAN port just long enough for the router to set the time correctly. I do with with my DIR-685 sometimes. It works well.

Hi again,

I don't think the issue is setting the time.  I can do that ok.  The issue is with the time zone, and specifically, daylight savings time.  This does not work for my country.  Can you set your daylight savings time to Australia?

Ok, so I configured my 645 for wired AP mode, connected it to my LAN side system on LAN 1. Connected a WAN side cable to the WAN connector and set the time zone for Melbourne, Sydney, Enable Daylight Saving options,
Daylight Saving Offset: +1 and rebooted.

WAN side cable is needed to collect and query correct time servers.

At this time for this setting and this actual time posted the router reported this on the status page:
Time:2013/09/16 03:30:08
My actual time is 11:30am MST time zone.

After the time was sync'd, I disconnected the WAN side cable, leaving the LAN side cable connected. If the 645 loosed power or is rebooted with out the WAN side cable connected, time will fail to sync.
