Access Control by Schedule not working ... period
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:31:03 PM »

I have a DIR-655 with B1 hardware and 2.11NA firmware (just updated).  It's being used as a wireless access point (AP) only, no routing or DHCP, and connected to a switch with a bunch of other wired devices, which is then connected to a router that is connected to the internet.  It's sole purpose is to provide WiFi connections to the network.  MAC filtering is enabled so as to restrict connections to only devices with approved MAC addresses.

The device has been great for our purposes, but recently our requirements involve turning off WiFi connections on a certain schedule (say 8pm to 8am the next day).   Frustratingly, I am unable to implement ANY access control by schedule, no matter what I try.

I have read through the forums and found some tips, but none of them are having any effect here.  I updated to latest firmware.  I broke schedules across the midnight boundary, I even tested "Always" for the time range - nothing works.

Can anyone offer help here?  Why won't my device restrict internet access according to the policy or policies I create?

[NOTE: As I'm writing this, I'm wondering if it's because the DIR-655 is not providing the routing functions... not sure how to easily test that without some major effect on the network, but it did just occur to me.  Any insights there would be appreciated.]

Thanks!
Alan

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Is the 655 running as a Main host router or in some 2ndary wired AP mode?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
  • Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
  • If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
  • Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
  • Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.
< Important as someone just reported that there schedules were not working and fixed it with getting Time set up correctly. http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55971.0

To set up scheduling:
1. Reserve device IP addresses ON the router under Setup/Networking.
2. Set up a schedule under Tools/Schedule on the routers web page. Customize your dates and times here.
3. Use Access Control under Advanced to apply the customized schedule to a policy and to the PC(s) desired to be controlled.
4. Ensure Time is set correctly on the router. Tools/Time.
