I have 2 DELL Optiplex PC which running Vista Business for me and my family at home.  We always use Vista switch user to maintain the login sessions for self.  In past, when my DGL-4500 run v1.15 (my friend's DIR-655 run 1.21) and SharePort v1.14, it was perfect that we can print via shareport to my Canon MP610 multifunction printer from all our login sessions.  However, once upgraded DGL-4500 to v1.20, I have to upgrade SharePort to v1.10 together (actually, I don't understand the version number is smaller).  Then nightmare begin, the SharePort v1.10 seems support single user only that I've tried both "Disable Auto Connect" and "Enable Auto Connect with Connect Automatically Only for Printing".  Now, I must uncheck "Launch SharePort Utility at Windows startup" and ensure all Login profiles have no SharePort icon in Startup.

1) when SharePort v1.10 is running in the first login session (any login ID and same happen on 2 PC), all other login will get "SharePort Utility is in used" error.  Until we closed the SharePort from the first login session or logout.
2) although the SharePort is running (in the first login session), all other login sessions are failure to print
3) due to the SharePort only running in the first login session, we can not do "Connect to USB device" in SharePort for scanning from my MP610
4) the newest firmware for DGL-4500 (also for DIR-655) seems has renewed the code for SharePort.  In the released note, it written "New SharePort support PC/Mac (Requires New Utility Installed on PC or Mac to work)".  I've experienced that the printing will stuck (Windows PQ shows printing or error) even the SharePort shows the printer is connected, sometimes the printout will be splitted into several pages after I have over 10 or 20 pages printing.  I must reboot my DGL-4500 in order to resume and normalize the printing.

I've posted my case to DLINK Hotline but they keep asking me to contact there Technical Support directly but they didn't try to forward my case to support for investigation although it really looks like a serious programming problem on SharePort Utility and firmware.

1. Just make a logoff script that closes down Shareport automatically at shutdown.
2. Don't know what you mean exactly here, but following 1. should solve this

4. try fiddling with your printer/windows print settings. Try disabling using the printerspooler and print directly.

Many thanks for your kind reply.  However, as mentioned that I used the same configuration from the older version but the problems happened only after I upgraded to the latest version (I have 2 PC which both have the same problems).  I believe that the codes in new version has problem.

Also, why the older version can be run in background and allow everyone (multiple login sessions are being actived) can print via SharePort.  Why the newest SharePort has the opion "Launch SharePort Utility at Windows startup" which will create a SharePort shortcut in the Startup of the current login profile (each user ID must enable this setting once in order update the Startup profile) BUT will prompt "SharePort Utility is in used" error when other login session is created.  You should try simulate it on your Vista before you advice any script.

My point 2 meant SharePort v1.10 looks like running is foreground which support only the login session which launched it.  While the first login is still active but I switch to login other sessions, all other login sessions can not print due to "SharePort Utility is in used" error.

For your answer 4, if really can be fixed by disable print spooler, D-Link should highlight it in the release note.  Also, again, why I could use this print spool in the older SharePort versions without any problem?

The 1.10 version of Shareport cannot be compared to the earlier version, since Dlink changed the complete way of connecting to the router (drivers, GUI). So 1.10 is not an update but a completely new version. This explains why the 'old' way does not work anymore.

Simply exiting the running Shareport program solves it. So when switching user you can use a simple logoff script to terminate Connect.exe. There are also some nice utlities for Vista (Vista Manager, Tune-Up Utilities) that allow you to put a startup program in another startup groep.
Don't even have to test: I'm 100% sure this works 

Why not in the release notes? Because it's a possible trick-after-the-fact to fix an issue, which will work on certain printer drivers (perhaps).

Wow, thank again on your professional explaination.  I'm so shine that although I'm in IT field for years.

Well, I also knew that the 2 SharePort software are different since they are SharePort Network USB Utility and SharePort Utility.  But according to many other manufacturers, they will assign a big version number change for the new program with the totally different codes, e.g. CA has renumbered many their products to R10 & R11 from v5, 6, 7, 9 directly.

Anyway, there is a big mistake from D-Link.  Why the new SharePort can't support like the older SharePort USB which can support multiple logins?  I'm afraid that Vista is going to be more common (althoght WinXP is still the largest market shared) and Windows 7 is coming which both supports multiple login !!!  With your explainations, I will write a script to resolve this stupid problem.  However, these routers are designed and target for home and SOHO users (who will have more than 1 PC on LAN).  How many of them have IT knowledge to handle it?  How they will understand why the newer version software (& firmware) can not 100% work like before the upgrade?  With the older SharePort USB v1.14, I and my family can print & scan via SharePort when there are other login still exists and from any my 2 PC.  As there are so many problems, D-Link should release this newly developed SharePort Utility as BETA and alert us or teach us all the additional configurations other than SharePort Utility.

Also, the newest firmware has bug on SharePort.  I'm just rebooted my DGL4500 in 1 hour ago due to I cannot print any again but I'm just turn on my PC (& single login) for printing some documents.  Actually, I've rebooted my router every 2~3 days in these 2 weeks due to printing problem.

Then issue should have been solved with new (beta) firmware (1.32 for DIR655).

There are a lot of prgrams that do not support multiple users. That's no excuse, it would have been perfect if it were possible. Perhaps it's easy to fix, I am not an application coder.

You can use pskill.exe to close the process. (http://technet.microsoft.com/nl-nl/sysinternals/bb896683(en-us).aspx). Move it to the Windows directory or a directory in the OS path.

Just make a batch (.bat) or .cmd file with notepad that says: "pskill connect.exe" and put in the Windows directory. Through gpedit.msc (Group policy editor) you can set a logoff script to run every time you logoff.

I'm afraid that I can't agree with you.  Before I made this serious bad decision, I was using the older SharePort USB Utility v1.14 (& v1.00) that all my family members could print via SharePort from our own login sessions (multiple login from "Switch User").  Why the re-programmed utility v1.10 will become single user mode?
