D-Link 3780 Talk Talk Router
« on: January 03, 2014, 02:48:10 AM »

I have a D-Link 3780 provided by Talk Talk.  Do you know which D-Link model it is based on?  I want to upgrade the firmware as Talk Talk has crippled the VOIP access.  - they are doing it on all their routers now. (GRRRR)

Its a nice router, and I don't want to have to brick it and shell out £100 on a new router just for this one requirement.  If I can find the equivalent D-link model then it would be great to update the firmware to a non-crippled version.

Thanks,

Steve

Where are you located?

Can you confirm this model by the sticker under this device? There should be a 3 letter designation before the number.

The three letters are DSL.  I am in the UK.

Thanks,

The only think I can find similar with this model number is this:
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/modems-and-gateways/dsl-3580l-wireless-wifi-ac-1200-dualband-gigabit-adsl-router

Does yours look like this.

That seems to be the only one similar.  The talk talk is also upright, and flat with lights to the front.  The ports are in a different location, but there is the same selection.

The big difference seems to be that the 3580l is dual band and supports the faster wifi ac protocol, whereas the DSL 3780 is single band and only supports 8011n.  If these are software controlled then maybe a flash to the 3580 firmware may work.  In all other ways it seems eerily similar.

There will be HW differences...so I presume that attempting to apply FW will not work. It probably wont work anyways due to the FW or the HW checking at install time, that the file is applicable to the router and model. They must match.

Will Talk Talk allow you to BYOM?
