Motion Detect only works on 0% area
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:36:10 AM »

A bit surprised about the difference in usage compared to my 5222L I am quite pleased about the 2332L. My Motion Detection however seems to work only when I put the percentage to 0. I am using Firmware 1.01.04, working with Firefox 26 and tried Internet Explorer, but that did not make a difference.

rstark18 writes about using only 50% of the image area in this post. I am wondering if this is something you should be able to do from the webGUI (like it is with the 5222L), or only with the DLink console?
I played with the DLink console app, but seem not to be able to create (motion) event based recordings.

Next to that, I am wondering if anyone can tell me what their experiences are with the area percentages from the WebGUI.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure you can only get to the motion detection tab (on the web GUI) using IE. It will not show up in Chrome or other browsers

Which is awful on D-Link's part, and horribly disappointing.  I would like to be able to use the motion detection with my cameras, but since I'm a Mac house I'm out of luck.

Yes it does suck that this feature only works in IE, but not that hard to find a computer that has IE. Visit a library or community college if you have to and open up your camera web admin to be available outside your network.

Well, it requires IE because the motion configuration uses an ActiveX control... and so the Windows PC has to be set to allow the installation of the control.  Any publicly-available PC that has been responsibly configured will not allow this.  Not to mention that I have no interest in logging into my cameras from a random computer.

I agree that it sucks - perhaps you can find a friend with a laptop running Windows and then configure your camera? It only needs to be done once.

If your sensitivity is very low, then you would have to decrease the "Percentage" on area detection in order for it to trigger. Try increasing your Sensitivity and increasing your "Percentage". This will enable a larger object to trigger motion and cut down on false triggers due to small changes, e.g. speckles during low-light imaging.

Have you tried Firefox, which does not use ActiveX. Although I've only tried Firefox on Windows (with other Cloud camera models), Mozilla offers a Mac version of Firefox, but cannot say whether the Mac version will work as well as Windows.

I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and IE on multiple computers. To clarify, while you can set "Percentage" (area) and "Sensitivity" and view live motion, you cannot select the area to monitor unless you are using IE. I've looked at the webpage source code and the comment above is correct about it using ActiveX. It seems like an older version of firmware. My other camera, a DCS-932?, uses a different plugin which works on Firefox and Chrome. Hopefully, in the future they will release an updated firmware that will match that model.

Please add this request as a reply on the firmware wishlist thread at the head of this board.  ;)

I just heard back from my contact at D-Link regarding this motion detection setting / browser limitation. D-Link is already aware of this issue and is working on a firmware fix, but can't provide an ETA. The information I provided from this thread is being forwarded.  Please be patient...  :)

I'll believe it when I see it, but since it's more fun to be hopeful than not, I'll be hopeful!   8)
