Author Topic: DSL-3580L - is this the best it can do, or is it just D-Link standards  (Read 8135 times)

Just purchased the DSL-3580L for the modem functionality and having 802.11ac features in one box.
So i got started and made the needed configurations and released the IP from old linksys WAG200N , so i could receive my static ip on the 3580L.  Well that did not at all go easy.
although it went through and got enabled and got an IP, the DNS entries were missing. So i rebooted the box.
At next startup i had the DNS entries as well, but i wanted to alter the DSL advanced settings and have the Firewall disabled. so i disabled the firewall in setup->WAN settings and i altered DSL advanced settings, and now  all the problems with connecting by DSL started.

Right up to the end, where i made a backup of the current config and looked at the conf file for the box. Not only did i have a DSL config, but because i played around and altered settings a little, i had nothing but 8 different WANIPconnections in the conf file, and i remember that in status page i also had several virtual interfaces.
Why????     Well, i removed 8 of the configs and reset next WANIPconnection value to 1 , renamed connection from PoE_1_101 bla.bla to MY_WAN and saved the config.
And i reloaded this config and rebooted the box, and YES, my box was online again.

But this box is a mess configuring, and im normally used to Cisco commandline configurations.
and the fact it does not delete old configs when its altered but create a new, looks to me like bugs in firmware.

On top of this, the Port forwarding in EU 1.00 was also messed up, didnt accept an IP address, but ok, i was lucky and found the BETA 1.01 on the ftp server, where it is resolved! hurrah for that one.

The box works now, but if this were a regular user without networking experience, the Wizard seems only to do worse for the user, than any good job which could have been done.
I suggest a near update release remember to reset old WAN ip settings if a wizard setup is started, so you do not have conflicts here.

Im hoping it survives now and its stable, but only been online for 8hrs now :)

Sorry,
If it was not for Linksys not having a DSLmodem box with 802.11ac, i would probably have chosen differently.

What there any wizard set up differences after you loaded the v1.01 beta?

yes, firmware has more features now.  (I am in EU region, so firmware is good for my EU 1.00 box)

wizard works different and yes, defaults did not resolve the 9* config written, when .conf was viewed.

and it helps resolve some issuess but seems to have other issues.

So far, i am not even sure i got firewall disabled on this box, but added some inbound rules to allow traffic through which helps.

Ok, well this unit isn't sold here in the NA region so no experience with it.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and inquire about the configuration information and let them know of your experiences. This model is fairly new and I'm sure they will be working on the bugs as well.

Going to remove your link as that's not an official release site. When you talk to D-Link ask them to post there FW files on the main site please.

If anyone needs the beta, please get a hold of me or collectordk and we'll get you the file if it hasn't been posted to the main or ftp.

just noticed another bug.

Adding reserved dhcp ip's from a range between 10.1.1.50 - 10.1.1.150

an ip of 101 can be reserved.
but if i enter  10.1.1.65
i get the error , "IP is within dhcp range", and i cannot continue, except press "cancel"

so trick here is:
set range to 10.1.1.70 - 10.1.1.150

add the reserved 10.1.1.65 , press apply, and then go back and modify range back to 10.1.1.50.
hmmm, bugs,bugs,bugs.

10.1.1.65 is within the LAN network 10.1.1.0/24 , and the fact that 10.1.1.101 works, makes this a pretty strange error.

sorry, the default IP box comes with is 192.168.1.0/24  which is do not use and rather go with 10.1.1.0/24 which suits my network at home.

And do not say that is hardcoded to work only with 192.168 :)

btw,
created a support case at Danish dlink on their website with the errors ive found so far.

I recommend, as a test, give the 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.254 DHCP IP address pool a try, setting the modem IP address to 192.168.1.1 and then try the 192.168.1.65 reservation a try. Same thing happen?

Yes I agree, setting a reservation of .65 is with that pool range and should work.

"DHCP Client Status
Your DSL-3580L ADSL Router is configured, by default, to be a DHCP server. This means that it can assign an IP address, subnet mask, and a default gateway address to computers on your LAN. The default range of IP addresses the DSL-3580L will assign are from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. Your computer (or computers) needs to be configured to Obtain an IP address automatically (that is, they need to be configured as DHCP clients.)"

Using the 10.1.1.0 range may not be supported on this modem. I'd ask about it to be sure. Theoretically and technically it should work in normal network standards however D-Link may not be following standards, or may have left that out.

Keep us posted...
