New User needs some help with video issues.
« on: July 07, 2009, 10:20:42 AM »

Hey all,

I am new to networking.  My GF moved in, and I needed a Router for her to access the net.  Got a DLINK DIR 615.  No probs there, her Mac connects just fine.  My PC is attached via ethernet cable to the router.

I had always wanted a 'clean' (read: no wires) way to connect my PC to my home stereo for audio and video transmission.  Got the DSM 750. Set-up was easy, and I have no problems accessing my audio files using  WIN XP,  WMP11 and MediaLounge.

The problems i'm running into seem to concern AVI files only.  When I play one on the 750, the video starts just fine, but there's no audio.  Eventually, the video stops working entirely.  WMV files work fine for the most part, and I've download some HD WMV clips which play fine and do not 'stutter'.  I ripped a DVD to AVI (xvid) to see if my self-made AVI would work, but it didn't either - no audio, and then no video.

Is my problem likely a) transmission of the file wirelessly; b) processor related on the PC c) something else entirely?

Thanks in advance for any advice y'all can offer.

So what happens if you try it wired do you see the same issue with these files? Or if you could try it via USB direct..

Thanks for the reply -

I don't have a long enough ethernet cord to attempt it wired, but I will try it USB direct to see if that makes a difference.

Will post once I've tried that (in about 7 hours, when I get home!).
