Router Not Recognizing Available Firmware Update
« on: March 10, 2014, 02:20:34 PM »

Just realized there have been firmware updates available for my DRI-655, but when I click on the Check Now button on the Tools -> Firmware page, it says I have the current version.  I have version 1.32NA, hardware version A4.  I see that version 1.37 is available.  Any idea why its not recognizing the available update?

Also, is it worth doing the update to 1.37?  Everything seems to be running fine, but I do like to keep current on these kinds of things.

Link>Welcome!

Some of the updates may not be posted to the update servers however users can use the following to manually update for safer updating as we have seen some routers get bricked by using the update wizard onboard and using various browsers:
FW Update Process

I recommend to read the release notes on D-Links main web page or posted FW update links here in the forum for release not information.

Over all, if your router is working and your not effected by what is in the release notes, keeps whats loaded.  ;)

Thanks for the reply.  I've checked the release notes, and it looks like my current version was the last big release.  I have no problem doing the manual update.  The only thing I'm curious about is the next release after mine, 1.33NA.  One of the 3 things mentioned there is "Fixed:  DNS relay issue ( WAN Slowdown )".  Any idea what that was about?  Although my router seems to be working fine, if there was an issue with the WAN slowing down, I might be interested in that release.

One more question if I may.  I assume the newer DIR-655 has the "C" hardware version?  Have there been significant changes since version "A"?  Also I seem to remember reading somewhere that the DIR-655 is at "end of life", and I can see in the DLink store that they are being sold at a pretty good discount.  Given the stability and reliability of this router, should I grab one now before they are all gone?

Thanks again for the info.

Yes when using DNS Relay there was problems seen. This was on a few model routers back then which was fixed. It may not effect you if your not exhibiting any internet speeds decrease or download problems...

Yes the Rev C is new and the DIR-655 is still supported and not headed to EOL from what I know. I have tested the Rev C and it's a pretty good router and follows along the line of the 655 regarding stability.

Heres and over view:
