Just installed 2 dcs 5020L cameras but now I'm worried about how much bandwidth they're going to use and also what effect they might have on my computers performance.  What I'd like to know is......is there any way to turn off the cloud recording when it's not needed?  It seems like this would be something that was both advantageous to d-link and to the end users.

So far I'm happy with the 5020L's.  I did return a 930L for a couple of problems that I couldn't resolve.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bandwidth is only used when a live video feed is actively viewed.
I'm not sure what you mean by "cloud recording".

Thanks for the quick response...I was under the impression that the camera's were recording to the cloud on a continuous basis.  I'm thrilled to hear that's not the case. 


If I understand this correctly...if my camera detects motion it sends the pics it takes to the cloud,  which then sends them to my email address and very little bandwidth is used, is that correct?

Not quite...

Live View

If one person logs into your mydlink account and opens the Live View, then bandwidth is used. If two people log into your mydlink account at the same time and both open Live Views concurrently then 2x the bandwidth is used. The minute the Live View windows are closed, the bandwidth stops.

The ONLY bandwidth mydlink uses is for the Live View when logged into mydlink. All other activities such as motion detection triggered emails and other recording options use bandwidth, but not through mydlink.

Other Sources of Bandwidth Usage

• Email -- If a motion detection triggers an email with an attached screenshot, then the only bandwidth is the sending of the email with the attachment.
• Recording -- If your cameras are configured to record to a remote server (i.e. located somewhere else in the Internet), then bandwidth will be used. If video is recorded to a NAS or local server on your LAN, then no bandwidth will count against your ISP
