What does Shareport DO?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've searched the D-Link site and the Knowledgebase and there seems to be no simple explanation of what the Shareport utility is for.  I tried to download a manual but the download didn't start, and the version seemed to be backleveled.

Our aged LinkSys router died, and we're replacing it with a D-Link DIR-628 Rangebooster, which we won't be able to install until Friday.  This is for a very small office network, with one PC (Win XP Pro), one networked printer, and one VoIP router which I hope to replace with the DIR-628.  Given this setup, what would Shareport do for us, or would we need it at all?  Advice received gratefully.

When it's working correctly Shareport lets you access a device plugged into the USB port on the router as if it was actually plugged into a USB port on the PC. You could share a printer or all in one over your LAN for instance. If you haven't updated your firmware yet DON"T until you read some of the posts related to problems with Shareport. It worked for me until I updated my firmware not it's basically useless. =(
