I have a comcast arris cable modem with built in router, I have used all four ports up.
So what I would like to do is setup my DIR655 as an accesspoint and be able to use the ports
for additional network devices.

As an Example Comcast Assigned IP 68.X.X.X the actual ip to configure the modem is 192.168.1.1
DHCP pool Address begins @ 192.168.1.2 -255  subnet 255.255.255.0

Dir655 I configured the IP as 192.168.1.100 DHCP,UPNP,QOS, disabled.
I selected static ip and entered 192.168.1.10 subnet 255.255.255.0 I get an error telling me
the wan subnet conflicts with lan subnet?

What am I doing wrong, please help

Let us know if using the linked info helps. I believe in your case, the only thing you need to change is 192.168.0.50 to 192.168.1.50 or try using 192.168.1.254 on the 655 AP.

The modem is comcast Arris TG862
For me to access this modem I enter 192.168.1.1

Now for me to access the Dlink it's default is 192.168.0.1
I wanted to change that ip to 192.168.1.100

Try using 192.168.1.50 or .254 on the 655 in AP mode. Be sure to disable all other features as mentioned in the linked info. You can configure the 655 for AP mode with out being connected to the ISP modem initially. Just set a static IP address on the one wired connected PC using 192.168.0.49 and subnet 255.255.255.0. Do all the configuration and disable the features first. The last item you would change is the 192.168.0.1 to the new address. Save and reboot. At this point you can change the PCs static IP address to 192.168.1.49 and recheck the 655 AP settings or connect up the 655 to the ISP modem and set your PC back to auto obtain IP addressing. You should be able to connect to the 655 from here on out with the new IP address.

I followed your steps, and at the end when I try to change the ip address of the dir655 I get the same msg

And you disabled DHCP and disconnected the WAN port from the ISP modem then changed the routers IP address?

I would do a factory reset on the router and set it from from scratch again, using the process. Do it while disconnected from the ISP modem. Be sure your not re-connecting the 655 to the ISP modem using the WAN port. That will not be used after you configure AP mode. Only connect the 655 to the ISP modem using one of the 4 LAN ports in back of the 655, NOT THE WAN PORT!

I got it to work, thank you for your help.

However I do have some odd things, happening with the comcast modem.
As an example I plugged the DIR655 to port 1 on the comcast modem, and then plug my laptop to
port 2 on the Dir655. I performed a connectivity test etc.. Everything works.

I then plug my other pc straight into port #2 on the comcast modem, for 5 minutes lost internet, I did a ping test no response. About 5 minutes later I am getting constant ping results and have internet.
So I am wondering if during the 5 min, if the comcast modem is rebuilding an arp table?
Because other than that I cannot make sense of what is happening.

I don't know what the behavior on the ISP modem would be. I presume something on the ISP modem is doing something.

I recommend doing IP reservations ON the ISP modem for all of your devices so they have the same IP address each time they connect.

This is a diagram of my final setup. I made the Dir655 Mac/ip reserved 192.168.1.2
Other network devices are static as well, mac address reserved.
Wifi is limited on a certain range, with no SSID Broadcast,wpa 2 tkip/aes on both router 1 & 2

I recommend using Reserved IP addresses ON the ISP modem and let the modem handle all IP address hand out accept for the 655. Let the 655 act as a pass thru for the device traffic. You should be good to go. Be sure if your using the Wifi On the ISP modem, use different channels between the 655 and ISP modem, say 1 and 11. You can use the same SSID and PWs.
