Adding a partition without reformatting disk
« on: August 06, 2014, 01:20:46 PM »

Hi,

I have set up my Time Machine on my Mac to back up to my 320L. I'm currently set to RAID 1 with one volume. As Time Machine will continue to take up space on the 320L HDD until it's full, I wanted to set a partition that only it will use and therefore will be limited in its space.

Is there a way to add a partition to the HDD without formatting the drives? I have gone on to 'Hard Drive Configuration' under 'Disk Management' but I can't be certain that that won't format the drives at the same time. I have tried Disk Utility on the Mac, however, the buttons to add a partition to the NAS drive is greyed out, when the one to do the Mac drive isn't greyed out. Therefore, I assume I cannot do it via that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Joel
