Why hasn't the greyed out record button issue been fixed?
« on: June 02, 2014, 09:01:19 PM »

To date, our problems with having the manual record button greyed out has not yet been properly solved.

For me, using Compatibility View on IE11 always results in a runtime error when I try to login. This happened after I allowed the NVR to install the 'WebView ActiveX Control Module'. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the 2005 C++ redistributable and the associated security updates and have tried using other browsers.

Whatever the jury rig fix, it is not right that we have to bend our minds (and tear our hair) to go figure out how to use something that should have been working out of the box. We are not asking for some functionality that was not part of the product's spec; having a working record button is fundamental to the use of the NVR. D-Link should up its game and look into these issues related to the use of the NVR urgently.

I bought this NVR because I liked the DCS-2132L and thought using all D-Link products should ensure 100% compatibility. The journey thus far has been more rocky than I liked. Furthermore, the different components are not cheap; getting a setup with 2x DCS-2132L, the NVR and perhaps 2x 2TB HDDs can easily set one back by almost US$1000; this is not the price point for OEM Made-in-China stuff and we should expect better in terms of firmware support.

The DNR-322L was touted as a commercial (not home use) NVR and the price reflects this. It should be receiving the same level of support that a commercial machine deserves.

I was just prompted to update my Java 7 to Update 65 by IE when I logging into the DNR-322L interface. If I recall correctly, the update that 'killed' the record button was 2-3 updates ago (Update #62?). Someone posted in this forum that a D-link CS told him a firmware update to resolve the issue was due to be out in Feb 14 (about half a year ago) but it seems to me that D-link has appeared to have quietly discontinued support the 322L.

I am not confident that we will ever see this and other outstanding issues resolved. While I am not one who likes to whine online or run down products just because of one teeny weeny issue, I have to state for the record that the DNR-322L is not worth the money and time I have spent trying to get it to work.

From not being able to record on motion detect, left to my own devices to figure out why my setup is always locking up to the Java/greyed out record button issue, I should have bit the bullet, bought a Synology and their camera license pack.

I have had several people ask me about setting up surveillance system.  If they would only work the kinks out of this I would totally recommend certain DLink cameras (basically any of the cameras with external antennas, the internal ceramic SMD antennas just do not have the range and the ones that support codecs other than just MJPEG, which eats a lot of bandwidth and storage) combine with this NVR and a dedicated WiFi network, and you could get a great 6 - 8 camera system for around $1,000.

But until this is much more polished and less kludge-y, I simply can't recommend it.  To get this to work properly I've had to roll back to FW 1.5, mess with IE compatibility and JAVA security settings that were not well documented, trick the system into recognizing PTZ cams as different models (that causes it to lose the PTZ and sound functionality) and disable remote viewing for the NVR because it caused issues with the superior remote viewing functionality direct from the cameras.  Also, the unit won't record sound on any camera, recognized model or not, and there are issues exporting videos - I can only export them to a network share, if I export them to a local computer there is some permissions issue that causes them not to show up in Windows Explorer outside the Save As dialog for the NVR add-in app.

If DLink could only polish this and make it more user friendly they would have a very competitive product against the wired systems (and drop the ceramic WiFi antennas).
