I have had the DIR-665 N450 Dual Band since June 2011. Prior to this, my old D-Link router was great, no problems, compared to my friends with Linksys and Netgear who always had to reset theirs, so I figured this one would be reliable. However, I have had problems with this since I bought it.
The DIR-665 drops the internet connection via WAN all the time. First, know that this is not an issue for any computers that are connected via LAN. There are multiple devices in our house connected. Two DirecTV boxes, Sony PS3, a Wii-U, two desktop computers, a laptop, and occasionally a Nintendo DS.
While on the PS3 there are days when the connection is lost and regained frequently. While using the iPad, I can be surfing the web for about a minute, but then nothing loads. It still shows that I have a signal though. If I turn Wifi off and back on immediately on the iPad, I get the internet back for another 60 seconds. What's odd is that this happens at random times. It's not always a problem.
I tried setting it for 2.4GHz, limiting it to G/N only, setting the wireless channel. I tried disabling the SPI under the Firewall, turning off the Firewall, and turning off the QOS engine. Still having the same problem.
I tried taking off the cover in case it was overheating, and blowing the heat sync with compressed air.
Up until two days ago, I had the latest firmware installed. I did a factory reset.
I ran it for one day with no security and had no problems at all.
As soon as I turned on WEP/WPA automatic and set a password, my problem came back.
HELP! I am so tired of this expensive POS...
