Bandwidth Limiting Per IP
« on: February 19, 2015, 06:46:43 PM »

I recently got a 50mbps internet package from Cox. They gave me a D-Link DIR-615 E3 router and Arris Wireless box router. The problem I am having is with one of my household users. They stream Netflix which eats up 75% of my bandwidth -my speed test reads 16mbps for my computer.-  Is there any built in functions on my QoS or other things I can do to limit that persons bandwidth (maybe to netflix specifically)? Thank You!

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

You can set up QoS to help manage some bandwidth using the following as an example:
Gaming and QoS for XBL

However looking at the user manual for your DIR-615, it doesn't have any custom rule features seen in the sticky FAQ. It's either ON or OFF. You'll need to get a DIR series router that has the additional QoS features seen in the sticky then you can manage the bandwidth better.

I'd recommend getting into a DIR-636L, DIR-655, DIR-836L or DIR-868L. These are solid routers and have customizable QoS features.
The DIR-615 is an older generation router and isn't being developed on any more.
