Error: cannot read /sys/class/net/eth1.2/speed file
« on: February 06, 2015, 07:46:31 AM »

Every once and a while, I see this error in my logs.  There's over a hundred of them from yesterday:

Feb  5 17:44:57 DIR-655 daemon.warn miniupnpd[2638]: cannot read /sys/class/net/eth1.2/speed file : No such file or directory

Any ideas what's happening here?  Everything seems to be working just fine.

I'm on C1/3.01.

  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
>FW Update Process
  • Was the router doing this before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

Whats connected to the router? LAN wired?

I'll have to look at see if I notice this with mine...I don't remember seeing any thing like this...

Have you tired loading v3.02 and see if this populates on this version of FW?

I haven't touched the router in about a year, other than an occasional reboot.  Had been thinking about upgrading to 3.02, but since its been working fine, I went with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" strategy.

I'm on Comcast Blast (50mbps) service, using my own (not leased) Motorola Surfboard Extreme cable modem SB6141.  It usually gets a dynamic IP from Comast whenever I reboot it, but has been on the same IP address for about 3-4 months, even though its been rebooted a couple of times.  The DIR-655 is wired to the modem.

I have the router set to email me the logs every night at midnight.  Just went through them and found this issue happened on the following dates.
2/5
2/4
2/3
1/27
1/24
1/17
1/16
1/12
1/1
12/29
12/26
12/15
12/14

Lots more examples, but it looks to be happening 2-4 times per moth since I purchased this model back in early March last year.  when it happens, there are a lot of them.  The log from last night has this error 162 times, covering a 20 second period.

As I said, I'm not aware of any problems.  The router seems to be working fine, but this error just bugs me!!!

Thanks

Ya, if it works. Only thing would be to save your current router settings to file. Factory reset, update to v3.02, factory reset and set up from scratch and see if those logs appear or not. if somethihg happens you can always go back to v3.01 and apply your saved router config file.  ;)

Thanks FN.  I may give that a try this weekend.  Its just a pain to manually set everything up again from scratch.  Need to take a bunch of screenshots first!

Well you could give the v3.01 save config file a try on v3.02. Up to you.

Understood, but just to be sure I'm starting from a clean slate, I'll set it all up manually after the upgrade.

Sorry, but I was having too many problems with this router and just recently purchased the Linksys WRT1900AC.

I do however really appreciate all the help you have given.

Hmm...Would have been nice to know if you tried v3.02. I haven't seen any issues with Rev C.

Good Luck with that new router.  ;)

Enjoy.
