Hi

I purchased a Sumsung Smart TV (UA46D6600) and I am having problems streaming mkv files from my dns-325 device. Niormal avi's stream fine but when streaming mkv files the TV reports that the file type is unupported. The file streams fine via the Samsung AllShare sofware that I installed on my windows box, however I would like to get this working from my nas device. From what I have read, it seems to be a problem with the headers that is send when the file is requested.

Can this be addressed in the next firmware update?

Try renaming the file as a .mp4.  My brother had the same issue with his Samsung TV and he has to rename all the .mkv into .mp4 and it seems to work fine for him.  Good luck.

one problem here is its slowly becoming popular and its Apples favoured  format as fare as i no they don't own it
Its used allot by the torrent Sean so companies have to be careful but .mkv files i have never got to work i use ultra video converter very handy bit of software

Hi, i can  explain why smart tv samsung do not play mkv files from dlink nas. It is because nas return a none standard file content type. In fact the file content returned in the http header  is video/x-mkv but should be video/x-matroska has defined here http://matroska.org/technical/specs/notes.html.

Dlink have to update the media server provided in the nas.

Have you checked the http-server configuration file, perhaps you can just fix it there?

If that doesn't do the trick, then one has to assume that the built-in mediaserver (Firefly) has it configured/hardcoded elsewhere.

I have a Samsung UN50ES6500F (2012 model). The problem I have is that my TV "sees" the DNS-325, in AllShare app, but can not see any files in it (it will just show the "up" option). This is strange, as I  used to have a UN40C5000 Samsung (2010 model), and it worked (not with MKV files, by the way).

The DLNA server is activated and the folders are shared and updated in the DNS, as it used to be in my old TV, and I can access the files from my iPad. My TV has the lastest firmware available, as weel as the DNS.

How do you access the files in the DNS from your TV, and/or what settings do you have on both sides?.

This is a Fault of the DNLA we asked before for more support for this as the cheaper competition has more features for half the price
The files that will work are .avi .mp4 mpeg 1 and 2 these are these are the only ones that will stream

I've been following a few forums on this topic and looking for suggestions for an IT novice.

I have a DNS323B running two 1TB drives. I've recently had it connected to my router and accessed via multiple wireless devices and media streamers without issue.

I've now purchased a Samsung SmartTV and have the DNS connected via ethernet using the router as a switch. The TV can 'see' the DNS-323 but indicates there are no files on it, when I know I have lots of folders and files.

The DNS box is in an enclosure in the garage and I don't want to have to have another device attached to it just to enable it to share. Can you suggest any actions I can take to get the TV 'seeing' my folders and files? Would a FunPlug/Twonky install solve my problem?

Would appreciate any help.

I have the similer issue and tried to rename .mkv to .mp4. However, this method doesn't work for me. After a seach, I found that Faasoft MKV to Samsung TV Converter can help me solve the issue. Hope this will be useful for people who have the same issue with me.

Though Samsung TV claims to support MKV files, sometimes we still can not solve the issues that Samsung TV won’t play MKV. This is probably because MKV files are with DTS audio and Samsung smart TV have bad compatibility with DTS audios. In order to play MKV files on Samsung, we need to convert MKV DTS to MP4 AC3, or other supported formats by Samsung Smart TV.

Thank you for this information. I presume that if the TV had a DTS decoder that the MKV DTS files would work however I presume since most TVs may not have a DTS Decoder since DTS is mainly for sound systems that have 5.1 or higher speaker support and a DTS Decoder, User should take into consideration before generating MKV files for use in streaming to devices that may not have DTS decoders. Make your MKV files to support what your going to be streaming too and know the sound coding support before generating these files and make the file configuration accordingly.

I do MKV generation an do use the highest coder for my sound system, boxee box and xbox streamers as these are my decoders.
