DHP wont connect to Zyxel/Centurylink PK5001Z
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:59:35 PM »

My DHP306AV A1 works with an old Linksys router but will not work with a new Centurylink/Zyxel PK5001Z DSL Modem/Router.  The DHP has f/w 4.3.0 and I tried to upgrade to 6.2 per the dlink website but get an error message.  The dlink utility connects to the DHP via the PK5001Z but no device connection.
Is there some trick to the firmware upgrade?
Will new firmware fix the PK5001Z problem?
Will a new dlink adapter work with the PK5001Z or do I need to get one from another vendor?
Are the newer adapters compatible with the AV306?
Don't know if this is a problem but the PK5001Z only has 4 pins in the 8-pin RJ-45 connectors.
Thanks for any help.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

It's possible that the DHP units are incompatible wit the ISP modem/router.

You could bridge the ISP modem and install a external DIR/DGL series router and then connect the DHPs to the external router.

We are in the U.S.  The DHP and cable works if we connect from the DSL router to another (Linksys) router and then to the DHP.  The cable appears to work fine if we use it to connect to the DHP from the DSL modem/router for the D-link utility except the firmware update does not work.

Is there a list of incompatible routers?  It seems that pretty much everybody using Cwenturylink DSL would be using their DSL modem/router!

Only if they have not bridged the DSL modem/router.

Pretty much any external DIR/DGL series router will work. SInce the DHP works for the most part connected to the Linksys, this proves that there is a problem between the DHP and the DSL modem. Get into a new router:

Sounds like the ZyXEL PK5001Z(Gateway) IS in bridge mode, and that's why it's not working. It could only provide 1 IP but you had 2 things plugged into it. The reason you could still connect to DHP-306A(adapter) when PC > gateway > adapter is because gateway was still acting as a switch.

Solution: Take Gateway OUT of bridge mode, then it should work with adapter. First do this step, then do this one. If that doesn't work I would suggest calling your ISP. According to their site, Bridge mode is ONLY available to Centurylink Business customers. Odd.

Looks like ****pit error on my end! Hard Harry's comments about bridging had me looking at our lashup. The PLA link leads to another wireless router (Dlink DIR615) that has been operating as a second network fed from our main router but for some reason would not do this with the new Centurylink router.  I read the DIR615 instructions and they clearly say it won't support this configuration and should be set up as a bridge.  I set it up as a bridge and now everything works fine.

The happy campers say thanks for everybody's help.
