Awesome, thank you for the input. I will actually invest in a 2tb back-up external USB harddisk, just to back-up what I consider "irreplaceable" before toying with 2 x standard harddisk.

EDIT: bought a Toshiba DT01ABA200 2TB and will proceed to format it standard format.
EDIT2: ok, so my DNS320 couldn't format the Toshiba 2TB while I had my Hitachi 1 TB in at the same time. I couldn't enter access my data either, so I took out the Toshiba and kept the Hitachi in, and I had access to my data once again.
Which means I had to take out the hitachi and insert the toshiba in order to be able to format the 2TB in the type/style DNS320 prefers. Once it's done I will try removing it. and insert hitachi again to check access to the data, and then I will insert the Toshiba.
My only worry is that DNS320 calls the Toshiba same name as my hitachi (Volume_1), I will try changing the name before I insert the hitachi.
EDIT3: ok, it worked, my Hitachi has until today always been Volume_1, but now it's called Volume_2, both are standard formatted. I will try this setup (JBOD I think) for a while.
EDIT 4: I made the new harddisk available on my home network, and had to run a rebuild. After that I had trouble figuring out how to move data from one harddisk to the other, until I "fell" over Application => Web File Server. with that it's possible to move or copy folder/files to the other harddisk. I'm currently moving a little bit at a time. I haven't had luck with making the UPnP work, can't see any of my harddisks when I access it from my mediacenter, however I access it as if it was SMB, which means I can see both hdd.
