I cannot get my nest to function properly with the DIr 890. It can sometimes be seen outside the network, but commands never get sent to the device. It works automatically with other routers. Seems thugs might be timing out. Any advice? Shouldn't it be UPnP?

Smart connect is off and all three bands have unique SSIDs

The nest will connect and obtain an IP and is is visible via phone and web app, but commands do not reach the nest. Nest claims it is a problem with router NAT compliance. I also had a possibly related problem with a Plex server that automatically creates a port forward to be accessed outside of the network. After the server continually disconnected, I had to manually specify a port and forward it. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the nest, nor would I want to forward the Nest ports.

My 2 NESTs are connected and iPhone app works well. I presume the NESTs have be updated?
Do commands reach the NESTs while remote? Are the commands affected when Locally connected to the router with you phone?

Wireless mode on 2.4ghz is g/n only, always broadcast, wpa/wpa2, 20hz only, auto, automatic channel selection.

Recently the nest has been working in and out of the network after changing two settings on the router. I changed IPv6 to local clients only, and enabled multicast streaming for IPv4 and 6. Sometimes the commands take ~1 minute to update the nest (and this is on top of any internal delay that sometimes happens when the AC is turned on), which is longer than previously with other routers, but it does appear to be working now.

Thanks for the help, I hope these settings fix the problem. The router is starting to have fewer little quarks now that the settings have been changed.

Only other issue I have been having is with my iPhone. If I enter passwords for both the 2.4 and one 5 Ghz network, and the phone switched over to the 2.4, the internet does not work. I have to reset the wifi on my phone to get the Internet up and running again. For now I just don't have a password entered for the 2.4 network. Hopefully this issue will be solved in the next firmware update.

Since you made some changes, I recommend trying Auto 20/40Mhz and manual channel 11 if it's not being used by any neighbors and see if the problem appears...Mines set for Mixed mode, Auto Channel width and manual channel 11. The NESTs work well.

What iPhone and iOS do you have? I have a 6P and 8.1.1 and I do not see this behavior with going back to 2.4Ghz from 5Ghz. Once the PW is entered for either radio SSID, the phone should not ask again for a PW and should connect to either radio upon selecting either SSID names. I presume you are using separate SSID names for each radio right and Smart Connect is disabled? I use SSID name and SSID name 5Ghz for my radios.
