You would use Dlink's SharePort software. http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DGL%2D4500

Yes you can connect a USB printer to the back of the router if you have the Shareport software installed on your computer as well.

Does the computer using the Shareport Utility need to be wired or can it be wireless?

I've installed it on both and my wired PC is detecting the connected printer, but my wireless is not.

Wired is also Vista and wireless is XP, not sure if that makes a difference or if there's additional steps I need to take for the XP box?  Also, I have VPN on the wireless laptop, would that effect it?

It turns out that it is the VPN Software on my laptop.   As soon as I disconnect from VPN, the printer gets detected no problem.  When I reconnect, I lose the connection to the printer.  That sucks.

Anyone know a way to get around this?

There isn't really a way around that,  it's the nature of VPN.  Your basically creating a tunnel to the other network and completly ignoring your local network/internet/etc.  It's possible to use 2 network adapters to work around that but really is not something easily done.

If your DGL4500 is still running firmware v1.13 or v1.15, you will happy with SharePort for using the networked USB printer.

Well, if your DGL4500 is running the latest firmware v1.20 or v1.21 (all beta), you can forget its SharePort USB.
