Having troubles with the installation of DIR-615 [SOLVED]
« on: November 16, 2015, 05:23:50 PM »

Hello!
First of all, sorry if I post in the wrong category or if this question have already been solved in an other topic. I'd be thankful if someone could link me for an other forum if it concerns a similar problem.
Sorry also if my English seems strange, I'll try my best to be clear.

So there we go : I just received this router DIR-615, and strictly followed the instructions to install it, connecting it to my modem with a Ethernet cable and making the configurations following the advices. But  INTERNET steel don't work.
I checked in the status tab of the http://192.168.0.1 site and it indicates no IP in the "WAN configuration".
screenshot > http://i.imgsafe.org/482d837.png

I think it could be a DHCP problem even if I don't understood what it mean. I just noted it was "Link Down"

What should I do ? Do you think I made some mistakes ?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites
  • By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds.
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

Hi FurryNutz, thank you for answering so fast.

- my router is a motorola SBV5121i,
- I'm located in the south of Brazil,
- I couldn't find the currently loaded Firmware version : Here is a screenshot of the routers web page under status
- I have cable, my Internet Service Provider is called NET.
- I tested the speed here
- I'm using dynamic WAN IP addressing,
-when i connect my computer directly to the modem, Internet connection is OK,
- the cable Ethernet seems to work well,
- I'm linux user, i found a command to view the current MTU :
Quote from: terminal with the command ifconfig| grep MTU
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:65536  Metric:1
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
- my ISP modem have no built in router...

I hope I answered correctly to your questions, if I don't, I can try better.

  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Try 10Mb and then try 100Mb instead of Auto. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

I'm not sure if I understood : in the advanced options of the router site, there is the possibility to modify the ACL settings by ticking "web" in the services allowed.
When I tick "web" the number that appears is 80. So i tried adding 10 and 100, as you said.
A screenshot of the router website with the recent modifications :

No those need to be removed.

There may not be a WAN Port Speed setting on this model router.
Possible that this router could be faulty. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I called the D-link support office which asked me to find an other Ethernet cable to connect the router to my computer while the router remains connected to the modem. I'm now waiting for my cousin bring me this cable. I'll inform you if I manage to make my router work by wi-fi

Hello!
Problem solved : it was necessary to reset the router and to connect it to my computer without connecting to the modem while making the configurations, than change the IP of the LAN from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.5.1 than connect the modem to the router.
Thanks for your help anyway, good contination
