DNS-320 Rev A - UPnP/DLNA/Media Server Problems.
« on: November 27, 2015, 02:18:05 PM »

Hello everyone,

I just discovered this wonderful site today after I tried (and kinda failed) to revive my old 320A.

So today I updated the firmware to 2.05
Enabled the UPnP feature
Added media (folders) under Multimedia Shares Settings - .avi, .mkv, .jpg, .png, .mp3 and so on.

I tried it out on my 1 year old Samsung LED TV and it worked like a charm - no problems.
I tried it out on my 2 day old Sony KDL-50W809C android TV. I can access the NAS and see all the files I added, but I cant play any of them. It says "cant play video". (No problems playing same files from USB btw).

Talked with Sony's Support and they insist that the problem is my NAS setup. They say that it has to have some sort of media server rendering to the television. But for some reason my other TV works just fine. They had nothing to say about that. "I am only educated in Sony products and I am not allowed to speak about other brands .... bla bla bla".

I have looked into PLEX on this forum and unfortunatly my 320A is to old to manually add applications. (dont think plex mediaserver 320A is out there anyway).

Well, I was hoping some of you experts might have an idea of what is wrong. I am certainly out of my depth at this point.
Thanks in advance! I appreciate any input that might help me getting this new TV working with my NAS.

I presume if the "other TV" works while streaming data from the DNS, and the newer TV does not, this would be a newer TV issue and not a DNS issue. The DNS does not do ANY rendering of any data as it's storage device only and only transports data from the drive(s) to the requested device. TVs do all the rendering of the data if the data is in the supported file formats that the TV can understand and decode. Seems like whom ever you talked with doesn't fully understand NAS and there functions.

Thank you very much for getting back to me FurryNutz :D

Well, that was kind of what I was thinking. I guess this problem is then "out of this forum" aswell since it is probably a Sony problem. That is too bad, and I have no idea where to start troubleshooting, and how. Since the TV have no problems playing the same files, from a USB it doesnt have issues with supported file formats. Guess I will have to play from USB in one room and from NAS in the other. Too bad :(

Might get on the Sony forums and check.

Onlythings to check for are maybe that any multi-cast features and uPnP are enabled on the DNS and main host router.
