Hangs on writes, OK on reads, 2x4tb
« on: February 04, 2016, 04:23:58 PM »

So for a year plus no issues with my DNS-320L running latest 1.06.  I was lower before, but upgraded to troubleshoot.

I can't copy files to it without it hanging.  Like a copy will eventually occur over a long period of time (1gb 10min-15min), but even ftp or smb no difference,  Over 40 second hangs every few mb.  I switched routers, cables, wifi, wired, upgraded firmware.  I ran both SMART tests, drives come back ok.  They're 2x 4TB 5k4000 Hitachi drives.

So I bought another 320l, pulled the drives, reuploaded the config.  Same problem.  It's a RAID 0 .. yes.. foolish.

Anyone seen anything similar?  DLINK support said to reset the device. I "shouldn't" lose the drive data.

I moved houses since this problem started, new laptop, new router, new cables.. same problem.

What operating system on your computer/s?  Windows 10 has big problems with SMB/CIFS.

Resetting the unit does not destroy data it only changes whatever passwords and services you configured back to their default settings.  Anyway, if your data is important you should have a backup of it.

Edit:  I forgot to ask what FTP client program did you use to access the NAS and what were the settings?

I was trying from windows server 2008, windows 10, windows 7 pro, mac osx 10.10.5.  Filezilla 2 from osx.

The NAS regularly received writes from my server 2008 torrent box, then all of a sudden started to misbehave.  No change to network, and beginning of all that troubleshooting.  It is in a different house now, no torrent box, no windows, new router/wires everything.

That does appear to be very strange.  I assume that you have checked all the usual network setup things.  Are you using the win server 2008 as a domain server and is it set to act as a DHCP server and, if so, do you have the DHCP server in the router disabled?  If there are two DHCP servers on the network there can be some confusion when a device wakes up from sleep and tries to obtain an IP address - which DHCP server takes presidents and is it the same server that supplied IPs to the other devices.

Is there the same problem trying to connect to the web UI and have you checked the NAS logs to see if they indicate any problem?

Other than that I will throw your problem out to my people on Monday and see if any of them have any ideas.

I didn't check the NAS logs, where about would I.

new network in new house, has no servers, or a separate router.  Just the modem with a built in router doing dhcp.
