After reboot, the device goes into a boot loop.  The only way to recover is to manually update the firmware again using USB attached to NVR.  I can't remember what I did but I think I had to load the old firmware via USB to stop bootloop.

I've set a static DHCP assignment in my router to get around this issue.

That would be a reservation, not a static. Static is set on devices, not routers.

With my DNR-202L setting a static IP seemed to make it freeze all the time. It would freeze and then unfreeze. I switched it to DHCP and that solved the issue.
