DCS-5222LB1 unable to format SD card
« on: March 31, 2016, 11:25:19 AM »

Hi:

I just purchased a DCS-5222-LB1, and am trying to format an SD card which I inserted into the card slot, but it keeps failing - I am trying to use it for the first time here.  The error message that I'm receiving is "SD card busy. SD card cannot format".  I have it in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, all with the same results.

The camera is of Hardware revision B, running firmware 2.13.01.  See the attached image for the error.

Do anyone have any ideas what could be wrong, and how can I get the SD card to format.  My SD card is a Sandisk Ultra MicroSDHC 32GB Class 10 card.

Thanks.

Remove card.
Turn off all recording items.
Power down.
Insert card.
Turn on.

(It's probably the italicized item).

If all else fails, try to format in pc.

Thanks for that.  Dumb question - when you say turn off all recording items, what do you mean?  My SD card is not formatted properly and ready to go at this stage and I don't believe I have any recording items active, therefore is there any way/where can I check and confirm?

As for formatting it on a PC, do you happen to know what format does the SD card needs to be in? FAT, FAT32, or exFAT...?

Thanks again.

You're logged into the f/w I suspect.  Go to the other options. Sd recording, ftp, etc.

You can also verify by going to the live image, the recording symbol will flash when active.

I'm not able to verify at the moment, but fat32 sounds right.

I've checked my system but can't see the recording symbol flashing, so don't know what is wrong.  I'll have to check further when I get home later tonight.  If all else fails I'll try formatting the card in the PC using FAT32.

Thanks again for your help - much appreciated.

@RYAT3, just thought I'd let you know I managed to get the SD card to be recognised by the camera in the end.  I ended up formatting as FAT32 on my PC (actually on a Mac running Parallels  with Windows 7) and it works.

However, I later played with the options and found out what could be preventing the formatting - apparently there is a (default) event configured under Setup --> Event Setup that accesses the SD card, and I think that may be why whenI tried to format the card is always says busy although no recording it taking place.  I also found those FTP server etc that you were talking about.

Anyway, it works now and I'm happy...

Thanks again for your help.
