DIR-615 RevA1 ver1.10
« on: June 04, 2009, 05:13:06 AM »

I've recently acquired a DIR-615 revA1

Initially, there appeared to be no firmware(Power Surge?)

It took numerous attempts with different browsers, but I got the firmware loaded and updated to the most recent version available, ver1.10.

The Router works properly, giving access to the internet through both the wired and wireless connections.

My problem is that I'm trying to secure the router by modifying the appropriate settings.

Some settings CAN be set and appear to appropriately modify the behaviour of the router.

The problem is that whenever the router loses power OR is re-booted(which some setting changes demand), ALL USER MODIFICATIONS to the routers configuration are lost and they revert to their defaults upon completion of the re-boot. Obviously, this is not acceptable.

Question... are the configuration settings maintained by a capacitor on the board?

This might explain the loss of settings.

If not, is there any hope of an updated version of the firmware any time soon?

Thanks much for your (anticipated) timely response.

I was able to get my DIR-615 to maintain it's settings through power failures by installing a USB flash drive into the USB port prior to saving the settings. Once you have saved the settings, LEAVE the drive installed.

With the settings saved to the installed flash drive, when the router is rebooted or the power drops and comes back, the router will load the saved settings vice the factory defaults.

You only need a small USB drive, I used a 1GB because I had a spare but a 256 or 512MB should work fine.

My older DIR-615 (B version) does not have a USB port.  Nor does the product specs on the D-Link ever mentioned that any DIR-615 router have a USB port.

If you can not access the internal web pages, the DIR-615 router is "dead" (fried by the power surge.)
