Im trying to copy 120GB to the NAS from the MAC. This is incredibly slow and after a day or so it failed not copying it all. I have also tried via FTP again it starts and comes back with errors.

Is it meant to be this slow. Its connected with gigabit ethernet. Its just it takes days then fails whats the point.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?

Is a static IP address set up on the DNS or is it using Dynamic IP addressing from the main host router? I recommend setting a static IP address outside the default dhcp IP address pool on the main host router. i.e. 192.168.0.32 or .20 if the routers pool is 192.168.0.100 thru .199.
Also I recommend using a eternal Gb switch between the main host router and DNS and PCs. CAT 6 LAN cabling is recommended.

Any 3rd party Security SW installed? Disable while testing...

Thanks for the reply. Its a netgear router. It is set at dchp but is assigned a static reserved IP from the router. Will that make a difference or does the IP need to be set by the NAS itself. I assume reserving at the router does the same thing?

Static and Reserved are two different things. Lets not get them confused. Static means to set an IP address ON a device only. Reserve IP address means to set a IP address ON a router so that the connected device gets the same IP address always when it connects.

I recommend setting a Static IP address ON the DNS outside of the routers DHCP IP address pool as this will help to avoid any unnecessary router processing and management. Also the addition of a external Gb network switch is recommended. This will give more direct access between the PC and DNS when doing xfers and helps avoid unnecessary data going to the router then back to the DNS from the PC. You should gain better performance.

Thanks switch will get installed tonight. I'll reserve the ip on the router but set on the nas. It's odd cause I was getting a error creating a folder but then 10 seconds later it worked so it's no wonder large transfers fail. I was using to routers with dchp turned off as switches. I'll replace and see if it is better

How is the drive(s) configured? Standard HDD or Raid? Standard HDD is recommended...
How big is the HDD(s)?
