Hello there! This problem has been occurring only for the past month or so and it just started happening at random. I did not upgrade its firmware, change settings, etc. It just kind of happened. The problem is that the router just stops working altogether. The LEDs stay lit and blue, but the Wi-Fi completely drops, and I cannot connect anything to it via Ethernet. The only solutions is to unplug it and plug it back in. This makes it go back to normal, but it drops at least once a day and it is very frustrating. Is it time for a new router?

I attempted to bypass the router and I was able to establish an internet connection but I did not do it for very long as I need Wi-Fi in my house and my modem only allows me to connect one thing to it via Ethernet.

My hardware version is B1 and its firmware version is 2.11NA.

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

• I am located in North America.
• I am currently wireless connected to the router. My router is wired to my modem.
• Yes a Factory Reset has been performed.

• My ISP is WOW!. It's cable.
• My modem mfr. is Arris. Its model # is TM502G.
• I'm not sure.
• My up speed is 15.48 mbps and my up speed is 2.18 mbps (tested using SpeedTest.net).

I have already attempted everything listed under your Wireless Configurations suggestions. I am using mixed g and n wireless mode and I am on channel 11.

Using a Wi-Fi scanner, I was able to find about 14 other networks (I live in suburban neighborhood). However, their signal qualities/strength were all below one bar (below -80 RSSI according to the Wi-Fi scanner).

Still can be some interferences. What channels are they all using?

Try and pick 1, 6 or 11 which has less users on it if possible.

You might try a factory reset and set up from scratch and see. Only reason if the router has been working then suddenly started to have problems would be interferences that have moved into the neighborhood.

The channels I see are 1, 6, and 11, hah! I am currently on channel 11. There are 4 channel 11s (including my network), 6 channel 6s, and 3 channel 1s. There is also a 1+5 channel (?) being used and a 10+6 channel.

I will try a factory reset and set up from scratch if it goes out again.

OK, the router went out again tonight. The power and globe LEDs are lit solid blue, but the wireless LED is off. I will unplug it and plug it back in and try a factory reset like you described.

I did a factory reset, set the router up from scratch, and it is still doing the same thing. The wireless just drops and the LED goes off (all the others stay on and blue). I think it may just be time for a new router? Mine is five years old. It's never had this kind of problem before.

What settings it you setup for wifi after factory reset?

Did you turn off ALL wireless devices cept for just one to test with?

Might try the router in a different location to see if the problem follows.
If you disable the radio on the 655, do you still get internet thru the wired connections?

Possible that you can leave the wifi disabled on the 655 and install a newer generation WiFi AP if the 655 router portion still works.

Am having a similar problem.  Am operating N-mode only.  Wifi connection seems to drop during download operations (even small files on the order of 40KB) on Win7x64 HP and Win VISTA laptops.  Wire-connected PC not affected.  Other wireless devices (iPhones, iPod, IP camera, 2xRokus) also not affected.  The two laptops do not exhibit this problem on other networks.  The dropped connection can always be restored, but it's a pain.  Have tried everything mentioned in the other posts here.  DIR-655 Hardware Ver A4, Firmware version 1.32NA.  If I do a firmware upgrade check from the UI, it says my version is current, even though the website says 1.37 is current for A-version routers.  This has actually been occurring for some time (2 years maybe), I just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it.

DIR-655 is set for Channel 11 on the advice of Roku Tech Assist (ROKUs would disconnect and be unable to reconnect; setting Router for Ch 11 as recommended resolved that).  This problem actually preceded the Roku thing which was less than one year ago.

Different but perhaps related problem; router wireless radio will occasionally (once or twice a month maybe) just drop out.  Going into the UI and turning wireless off, then saving (router resets), then turning it back on & saving again, usually restores wireless operation.  Once or twice I've had to unplug the router and plug it back in again to get the wireless back.

Ensure the Rokus are not broadcasting any Wifi of there own. I believe they or some Roku's can broadcast there own wifi signal.
