Parental controls
« on: May 03, 2016, 10:39:46 AM »

Dear all,

I setup parental controls for one of the PCs. Established schedule, assigned schedule to a client with no problem. Guess what! DIR-890L blocks only browser traffic, but not online games, not Skype!
I actually need to block Internet access from this PC completely on certain schedule, including games, Skype, etc.
What should I do? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Is the PC that needs to be controlled wired or wireless connected to the router?
Try this? http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62516.msg254549#msg254549

My problem comes when I try to assign limited time to one of the wireless signals running 1.09. If you notice under wireless 5X, advanced, you have a choice to place into a schedule.  When you put into schedule, regardless of what the schedule is, it shuts down the signal totally which, to me, is not a schedule!  The entire signal should go to schedule, disconnecting every device on the signal.  It does not adhere to anything, it goes dead no matter what the schedule says.  I have rescheduled, edited, double checked, same result.  I should be able to block all devices on one signal without entering 15 different devices.

I presume SC is disabled when you are trying to configure PC rules?

Using Chrome, FF, Edge, IE11. Southeast USA, router reboots every week, yes it was rebooted, no it was not reset, only on the upgrade to 1.09.  I did not try before the upgrade on the 5G stream however I have always used PC on MAC addresses. In addition, changing times in PC also will drop all connections on that stream and will not reconnect unless you remove PC completely from the PC grid, then you must reenter all info.  I love the 1.09 but hanging on this makes me to try something different unless I can find a way to time this stream without babysitting all the devices...thx for the input..not sure about "SC"?  This may be my problem in the PC when extending time, I'll check...

I needed 2100 - 0800.  I think it is set for 2100-2400; 0000-0800. I am running all streams without SC. I had rather manage myself due to the vast amount of space.  Thank you!

Ok I just set up a schedule from 2100 to 00:00 tonite and continuing from 00:00 to 08:00 tomorrow. Saved settings and the router rebooted. I then enabled PC on my iPhone 6P that already has a reserved IP address. I'll check wifi connection in an hour. It's listed under the PC section of the UI.

Ok so that didn't work so I tried swapping hours and still didn't work. My phone still connected. Then I remembered that I had DNS Relay disabled. I enabled that and then set your time frame hours back again and rebooted the router. Now my phone doesn't have internet access. Even though it's connected to the WiFi on the 890L, No access to internet sources. Smart Connect and DNS Relay is enabled on my router. I still have access on my Mac Laptop which isn't set up for any PC rules.

I think that is exactly my issue with SC disabled.  At least I think it is not me.  Would be great if we could time the signal for those of us not using SC.  Thanks...

Can you try enabling SC and DNS Relay and see?

I'll try again with SC disabled on mine.

No luck, I'm thinking about the DDWRT.  Not even sure if it has PC but no I can't get one wireless signal to conform to a time frame.  SC did not work, I have all IP addresses reserved....

Was DNS Relay enabled, it needs to be.

Testing on mine seems to work when I enabled DNS relay:
"Ok so that didn't work so I tried swapping hours and still didn't work. My phone still connected. Then I remembered that I had DNS Relay disabled.
