DCS 942L - Does not reconnect following Internet drop out
« on: January 30, 2017, 11:10:06 AM »

Having purchased this to monitor home when on holiday I was pleased with the simplicity to connect and set-up (despite reviews on Amazon)

Software App was logical for what I needed  - some comfort to trigger motion and noise it seemed to work perfectly well with alerts and live view.

No problem with live image when I wanted to view remotely until I received an email alert stating that the camera had been disconnected.

Being on holiday this was worrying - assumed a power cut at home or loss of internet.

Anyway the camera never reconnected and  there is the problem.

Having tested the camera I know that it reconnected when you unplugged and plugged back in. However if you loose internet connectivity it does not then reconnect unless you manually intervene and unplug and plug back in the camera when it is then found again. Not easy when abroad!

This cannot be correct - can it? Often I loose the Internet even for a minute and I can see by my router log this happened at the time I received the alert of the disconnection.

So my question is this - is this a known fault/problem and is there a work around.

Thanks

Are you able to access the router after this power outage?

The only thing that I can think of after power outage, there might be problems if the router initializes before the cable modem, and doesn't get correct ip information to know it's connected to the Internet.

I don't have a 942l, but my other dlink cameras come back online after power failure, wireless included. (Unless there is a red light on the router saying its not connected to the world).

If that is the problem,  there are power cycling devices to correctly turn on the modem first, then the router 2nd. 4gstore should have a few models.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: 192.168.#.94  DHCP

Thanks for the replies.

It's not a power outage that is the problem it is when I lose internet connectivity (that happens in my area) and the Router will then re-set when the signal is back.

Hardware version is B1 F/W  Ver 2.0 - I guess Firmware would have updated when I installed but stats shows it is still 2.0

Region UK

Router is BT Homehub3 - propriety piece of kit from by Service Provider.

Wireless Mode 1 and distance is fine - I know that the problem is the Internet to my house dropping out and not Wifi signal in home as I have checked Router Log

I will try a static IP address for the camera and test

OK there are two type IPv4 and IPv6

Changing IPv4 to static populates with the addresses but for IPv6 I need to add the address 192.168.#.94

Do I simply choose a number for the hash? - for IPv4 it is 0

When setting a Static IP address, only an IPv4 address is needed: 192.168.#.94
I didn't think the 942 camera had any IPv6 features...

@luvlyjub, I have the same issue with 942L few years back, it was partially resolved when firmware added scheduled reboot.

Here's my suggestion and is what I exactly did last time.
1. enable scheduled reboot in 942L gui page (under maintenance)
2. buy a 24h timer for power outlet, have it set to on/off every 4 or 6 hrs.

I did above because the IP camera are on remote place and I usually come back after few weeks or months.

Your problem is either the router or too far from router.
