Problem using webdav
« on: October 21, 2016, 03:43:02 AM »

Hi guys,

I'm trying to access my drive over the net using webdav.
I can remotely log into the NAS through a web browser and using my registered ddns. I want to access the folder through windows explorer now but don't know what to type in the network mapping section.

To access the drive through the browser i have to type: abcd.ddns.net
but what address do you have to enter as the server to access through webdav/ windows explorer?

I've opened port 21 and 80 but maybe I need to forward more ports.

the other problem is that my ddns service says that it isn't getting ip updates although the box says that it is updating!

Thanks for your help,
Andy

First thing, try the easy way and use FTP.

Enable the FTP server on the NAS then install FileZilla (FTP client) on your computer (make sure you add FTP to your user on the NAS).

Fill in the necessary information in FileZilla and then try and login to your NAS from an outside WiFi hotspot.  If you can do that you are well on the way to getting WebDAV working.

If you are using win10 there may be problems so I would advise you to Google 'setup webdav on win10' ,  there is even information on how to use windows explorer as a WebDAV client in win7 out there.

This all assumes you are not on your local network

thanks for your reply.

I've now managed to connect on my laptop.
Unfortunately it can open directories but it isn't able to open video. VLC throws up an error message everytime.

Also I'm not able to access it on my android phone - es file explorer can't find / connect to the server
