Pre-purchase questions - cloud requirement
« on: December 19, 2016, 06:39:22 AM »

I'm interested in the DC5030L cameras for my home, but I need to know how well they will function in my environment. I do NOT trust cloud connectivity or cannot accept having to authenticate to a companies servers to access my equipment.

I plan to use my firewall to block the cameras from having access to the internet. I plan to access my cameras via VPN when I am out and I plan to use local storage and mail servers. Will these cameras function in this environment?

Specific questions:

1) Can the cameras be accessed via android through a VPN with DIRECT authentication. In other words, can I authenticate directly to my camera device, not to someone elses servers? I don't care if this is through a DLink app, 3rd party app, or a simple web browser connection on the phone.

2) Can I direct the camera to a local SFTP storage device for motion trigger event storage?

3) Does the camera have a built in web server that functions 100% independently of any connection to Dlinks servers? In other words, no registration or internet connectivity required to set up user accounts on the device?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Most if not all D-Link cameras can be used with out connecting to there services. Once you connect them via LAN cable to a main host router you can access there web pages using the IP address acquired from the main host router. There are some cameras which do not have a LAN port and require a USB and D-Link software to set up. The 5030Ls have LAN ports.

VPN access may depend on how VPN is configured and set up. You'll need to refer to the VPN software Mfr for help and information regarding that.
