How to check IP of DNS-320L if it is not visible on network
« on: April 16, 2018, 07:24:16 AM »

Hello Everybody,

I just bought a used DNS-320L and I faced with the problem, that I can't see it on the network.
First I made a factory reset on the device. I installed 2 NDDs into it and tried to check the IP on the network.
I tried to search it with D-link Storage Utility (D-Link Storage Utility(5.2.1.7)_01072016.exe) and also tried to search it with SoftPerfect Network Scanner,
but none of them show the device.
I have usual network settings (IP address is 192.168.1.xxx, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, etc). Operation system is Windows 10.
Wat can be the problem? How can I access the device only for a few minutes to set up the IP address of it?
Thank you in advance for your help and kind replies.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Is the DNS getting a Dynamic IP address from the main host router? Nothing in the connected clients list?
I recommend using a Static IP address ON the DNS set to 192.168.#.34 or .40.
Swap out LAN cables. Link> Cat6 is recommended.[/li][/list]

What version of windows are you using?

Dear FurryNutz,

Thank you for your kind reply.
Hardware version is A3.
The original F/W ver is 1.03, but I am not sure what version is on it at the moment, because I made a factory reset before I started to deal with the device.
After that I could not reach the device.
I am located in Hungary (GMT +1)

I have a T-online (Telekom) router, which was provided by the ISP. I checked the connected client list, but DNS-320L is not on the list.
I would like to use a static IP address on the DNS, but I can't set it up... :)
I already changed the lan cable (type: CAT5E), but it did not change anything.

My Windows version is Windows 10 Pro (1709).
I did not try nMap or ur pc yet, but I will. I already tried Softpedia Network scanner, but it did not find the device.

Do you have any idea how to set up the device or check the actual IP of it?

Thank you for your help in advance.

When resetting the DNS, the DNS defaults to a 192.168.0.## address string and is not changing to the 192.168.1.1 pool.

Dear FurryNutz,

THank you for your kind reply.
I checked IP range from 192.168.0.0 till 192.168.255.255 with nMap, but the device is still hiding.
Is there any other way to check/change the IP address of the device? For example with a direct connection, with USB or some other method?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Maybe the unit is bad or the lan connector in back isn't working.
Is there an LED next to the LAN port when you connect the lan cable? If so, it it turn on at all?

I think this is something the D-Link support should review...

Dear FurryNutz,

Thank you for your kind reply.
It seems lan connector is working, because the green leds ar blinking near the lan connector.
The device seems to power on correctly, power led is blinking, after that lighting as it should work.
I will try to write d-link support, I hope they will have some idea what can be wrong with it.

Thank you for your help.

Best Regards:

Try advance ip scanner (freeware)
Code: [Select]
http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com
Do a complete scan from range 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254 and another from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254.

What range of IP you get from your TMobile router? I mean, on your computers and etc, which ip range you get?

Usually Dlink is DHCP, so would aquire an IP from the range the router send him. Unless, somewhere in the past you configured it for a static IP, and itīs from another IP range your router is providing.

As last resort, full reset dlink and start over with a DHCP IP he receives.

I just bought a used DNS-320L and I faced with the problem, that I can't see it on the network.

With the last updates windows turned off SMB v1

Open a powershell terminal as admin and insert this command:

Code: [Select]
Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName smb1protocol
Windows will reboot and after that you will be able to see your NAS on your network again.
