Up-to-Date Firmwares
« on: March 24, 2017, 06:20:28 AM »

Hello,
I work at an university and we have a lot of D-Link switches (~200).
We are having problem with 1 model (DES-3028), which is a bit old, but is the one that we have most (~100), and is supplying our needs.
My question is: Are the firmwares from the Russian FTP reliable? Can I trust and use it safely?
They are more up-to-date and fix a problem with DES-3028's loopdetect.

BTW, every model we own have an newer firmware in the Russian FTP.

What region are you located?
It's recommended to use FW from with in your region and there maybe differences.

I suppose if you tried one unit and tested the Russian FW on this unit to see how the behavior is and if there is any problems first before applying to the rest...

I'm from Brazil.
I tested it in one switch and had no problems. Tried the loopdetect to see if it actually fix the issue, and it did.
My only worry is about reliability... If it is actually developed by D-Link and has no threats...

Would be regionally developed by D-Link Russia, not D-Link USA. Each region does there own thing for some products if not most.  ::)

So... Is it reliable? I'll not put a Trojan into my switches?

No idea. We don't test other regional FW and I don't have this product.
Our region has this for current and last version released:
http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DES-3028

What version did you load from Russia?
