DNS 320L PROBLEM WITH 2 HD'S
« on: April 03, 2017, 07:52:09 AM »

Hello, I bought a DNS-320L last year, configured it with 2 western digital hard drives (each one with 3TB capacity) and selected RAID1 configuration;
It was working fine, but recently I had to change it's location to another city and it started to give some errors;

Since I couldn't access my files under windows explorer anymore (\\mydevice\myshare), first I thought it was a problem with the hard drives, but after some checks (used a Ubuntu machine to backup all data using mdadm command to mount 1 of the hd's configured on raid1 and then formatted it 3 times to see if the d-link storage would recognize it, but didn't work) I noticed that if I plug only 1 HD, it's recognized by the storage and I can log in on web interface;

So, to resume: my problem is that the D-link storage is not accepting me to insert 2 hd's anymore, I can only plug 1 (doesn't matter wich hd or wich side of the storage I choose, it only works with 1 hd), if I connect 2 hd's it doesn't let me to log in on web interface;

I tried:
* to reset to factory state;
* update firmware to version 1.08;
* Format the drives with different file system (NTFS, EXT4, NONE);
* Run S.M.A.R.T test on both hd's (they gave me "pass" as result);

Is there anything else I can do?
I apprecciate your help and sorry for bad english  ::)

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

I might do a low level erase on both HDDs using a PC, then do not format the drives at all. Leave them completely erased by using the Mfrs erase utility of there is one available. Usually there is a DOS command line version. Then to a full factory reset on the 320L. Power off the 320L then install both HDDs into the drive bays then power ON the 320L and connect  to the DNSs web page IP address in IE11 or FF browser and walk the set up wizard.

Are these 3Tb drive model # supported by the DNS?
