Voice VLAN configuration on DGS-1210-52
« on: January 19, 2017, 02:14:36 PM »

Hello Everyone!
I'm new here, and also very new to DLink products.  I have been handed over a network with mix of vendor equipment and now need to have VOIP running over it.   I have been browsing and reading through the net about configuring Voice VLAN on DGS-1210-52

I have seen this guide provided by DLink but it doesn't really solve my issue
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/faq/switches/layer-2-gigabit/dgs-series/es_dgs-1210_como-configurar-voice-vlan

To give an overview of how the current network looks like.

A Netgear firewall router is used to route to the internet, which is connected to the DLink DGS-1210-52 port 48 using default VLAN.  This works just fine with data, but the issue is when I try to create a separate network for the VOIP.   I want to leave the default VLAN as it is now and just add a Voice VLAN.

I created a separate network on the Netgear FVS336Gv3 firewall - VLAN1 (Data - as is) and VLAN20 (Voice) which I allowed to be able to route between each VLAN since the DHCP Server is on VLAN1.

On the DGS-1210-52 I followed the step 7 onward from http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/faq/switches/layer-2-gigabit/dgs-series/es_dgs-1210_como-configurar-voice-vlan

I configure the phone to be on Vlan20, the issue is when I plug the phone to the switch:
1) It does not complete the DHCP process - It sends Discover and DHCP sends Offer with an IP address from VLAN1 range
2) Even if I try to set the IP address into the phone it still does not reach the GW which is set in the NetgearFW.

I have more knowledge in configuring Cisco switches, though this is what was presented to me and what I need to work on.   In Cisco, creating a VLAN on a layer 2 switch needs to just define the VLANs on an access port and a trunk between the switch and router.

Hope somebody can help,
Cheers!

So, how did you manage to connect the Netgear interface for VLAN 20 to the switch? Did you configure switchport 48 to be a trunk port (using Cisco terms) with (tagged) VLAN 20 being allowed and VLAN 1 being the native VLAN (in case of a single physical router interface configured as a trunk port either), or does your router provide a second physical L3-interface you would have to connect to another switchport, that is configured to be an access port for VLAN 20? Did you define a DHCP relay (Cisco: "IP helper") to listen on your router's VLAN 20 interface (relaying DHCP traffic to your DHCP server connected to VLAN 1)? Does your firewall allow the forwarding of DHCP traffic (68/udp --> 67/udp) from the DHCP relay's IP address to the DHCP server's IP address?

Any status on this?  ???
