DIR-822 Slow download speed
« on: January 09, 2020, 02:15:34 PM »

Hello everyone.

First post here so please advise if something is wrong with this post.

For a while now (noticed about 10 days ago) my Wi-Fi connection is really slow. I though this had something to do with my ISP but when testing with a cable directly from modem to my laptop I got my contracted 120MB speed.

I usually have 10 to 12 devices connected and sometimes I have less than 1MB Wi-Fi connection. Sometimes when resetting the router and renewing IP address I get up to 10MB but it goes up and down.

I also have my PS4 connected via cable and its speed oscillates between 20 and 30 MB.

The highest speed I got with Wi-Fi since this issue started was 30MB. To be honest I don't really check connection speed very often so I can't be sure what I used to get before but it felt faster. I believe 30MB is plenty but I'm rarely getting that fast now.

I don't have QoS set up and these are some information about my router:

Firmware: 3.15, Thu 24 Oct 2019
DIR-822 HW:C1

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

OK a few more tests were made and I have more information (no solution yet).

I have oscillating connection wired and wireless. Did a lot of speed tests and wireless it ranged from 1MB to 32MB while wired ranged from 1,5MB to 45MB.

Just to be clear my service is fine and I have high speed when connecting modem directly to my PC.

I pinged the router and responses ranged from 3ms to 960ms so there is definitely an issue there.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  Link> >FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?
