Why doesn't D-Link pull the 1.2+ FW and 1.10 SharePort Utility software off their website until a solution to all the problems are addressed? The fact that all the new A2 revision models are coming with 1.12 FW, says to me that they are not convinced that the later FW is stable enough for the common user.
The one thing that made me choose the DGL-4500 over the Linksys WRT610N was the SharePort. D-Link was suppose to support printers and Linksys did not. You can imagine how unhappy I was to spend the extra money on the D-Link and then discover that it didn't support SharePort unless I upgraded the FW from 1.02 to at least 1.13. When I checked D-Links website for the firmware, they listed the latest final firmware as 1.20. I decided to go with the latest version trusting that the company wouldn't offer it as a final version without thoroughly testing it. As it turned out, that was stupid thinking on my part. I didn't realize that when I upgraded to 1.20, I had been shanghaied and made an involuntary member of their beta testing team. SharePort has never worked as advertised using 1.10 software and 1.2+ FW. Not to mention all the problems with reboots and poor wireless performance.
I didn't look at the D-Link forum until I started having problems with the router. In hindsight, I wish that I had looked before I bought. It would have saved me a great deal of time and effort.
Is the bios chip soldered in or is it socketed? If it is in a socket, how hard would it be to just swap out the chip that has been flashed to 1.20 or higher with a chip flashed with 1.15 or lower? This would at least alleviate some of the problems created with 1.20 and along with the pulling of 1.2+ FW from their website would give D-Link some breathing room.
