WAN port speed
« on: May 18, 2009, 07:44:41 AM »

I'm trying to install my new DIR-825, but I have a problem with the WAN speed. My internet connection is 60Mbps, which works fine when I connect directly to the cable modem. When I connect via de 825, it works correctly when I set the WAN speed to 100Mb. When I set it to Auto or 1000Mb, my download is very slow (less than 10Mbps)
Do more people have to put the WAN manually to 100Mb or is this just me...?

I ended up setting my speed directly; the auto-speed I found is unreliable and results in exactly what you describe (slow outbound data).

Good to know I'm not the only one. (or not, ofcourse...)
Do you have to set it at 100 also, or does 1000 work as well? I can't get 1000 to work. My cable modem recognizes it, it says a 1000Mb is linked, but still no go. 100 is working ok. At the moment that is no problem, cause my internet is 60Mb, but what when I step up to 120Mb (which is possible around here). Then I have to use the 1000Mb speed I think, right?

May be an obvious question, but do you have a gigabit ethernet card in your pc?

I seem to have a similar issue here. I have a Motorola SBV6120E cable modem. (it has a 10/100/1000 interface) My subscription is 120 Mbit/s download 10 Mbps upload. If connected directly to PC, I can meassure speeds very near to 120 Mbps. But if connected via DIR-825 I can only get 3-4 Mbps at best. Cable modem indicates a Gigabit link, and I read that 825 can route LAN-WAN throughput over 300 Mbits/s. But what could be wrong?
If set WAN speed to 100 Mbps, I can meassure 6-7 Mbps speeds. If I set it to 10 Mbits then I can get about 9 Mbits, but that is unacceptable for a line of 120 Mbits speed. Like if there where errors in the link, lower the speed and the errors decrease. But I can't do much with 10 Mbits. Upload speedtests indicate around 7 Mbits regardless to the WAN port speed setting.
LAN-LAN speeds are acceptable. Is it possible that 825's WAN interface is not compatible with my cable modem?

Same issue here.  (rev B1 DIR-825)
Have a 50MBit cable modem(Ubee EVM3200) connection and it will be upgraded to well over 100Mbit soon

My "old" router a linksys wrt150n is not capable of those speeds on the wan side.
After seeing the charts & review on smallnetbuilder.com i decided to get the DIR-825.

The D-Link 825 is unable to handle any high single thread download.
My Linksys 150n is able to handle 5 Mb/s, the D-link 825 only does 2 Mb/s max.
It was worse before i disabled QOS and auto speed detect..

Fixing the wan speed to 100 MBit does increase the troughput, but i bought this thing for speeds over 100 Mbit.....

Is this a firmware issue?  Or should i return it and get a Linksys 610N??

 ???

small update:
Just added a gigabit switch between the cable modem and the DIR-825 to make sure the problem is not the cable modem.
The 825 seems only happy with 100Mbit  on the WAN side.....   i even saw a slight increase in download speed with the switch.

DIR-825(100Mbit)------>3comGigabSwitch-------Ubee EVM3200(1000Mbit)

I've returned the DIR-825 and bought a linksys wrt320n. (it's even cheaper)
Full speed download!!  out of the box!
The storekeeper told me that many people returned the DIR-825 router.
Over here 50Mbit+ internet connections are common, and the DIR-825 just cant keep up.

If you need dual radio then i recommend a wrt610n

A long time ago i bought a d-link router a di-604, it gave me many troubles (troughput) and finally bought a wrt54g. It has been linksys even since.

D-Link never again for me.

For the 825 owners, i hope d-link solves the issues asap.
