DNS 323 will not remap
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:40:27 PM »

Almost every time I log on to my Vista PC, I have an error from Memeo backup (the 'packaged' backup solution, albeit at a fee) saying my disc is not available.

I used to be able to remap, sometimes with Vista in the Computer folder, but always with the easy search utility.  Now I cannot remap with the utility.  I have had some success with restarting the PC and the NAS box, but this is getting very annoying.

This could be due to problem #2 - my drives are nearly full.  I have about 500gb of data on my PC, and 2x1.5tb drives mirrored in the NAS, so there should be plenty of space, even with file revisions backed up as well.  I've turned off saving multiple file revisions but it still filled right up.

I've tried other backup software, but couldn't get any to work - I figured the bundled pack from Memeo would work with this device.

Any suggestions?  This device has let me down in every category I purchased it for.

Thanks.

Sorry - using DNS 323 wired to Dlink DIR 615, wired to my Vista 32 bit machine.

Tried streaming to my wired xbox - no luck at all.
Tried streaming to my Media Center Extender - wireless, no luck.

i could be totally off-base but maybe worth a shot.  a number of issues i've dealt with with "IP" dependent devices have been conflicts on assignments.  if you have not done already, i would suggest assigning a static IP with a higher number (such as 192.168.1.125) and see if that works.  good luck.

I am experienceing the same problem. In fact, you can remap using EasySearch, but you must run through the configuration first.  You need not change any of your configuration settings, you understand; you merely need to run through it.

Instead, of course, you can remap using Windows "run" menu.  From Start|Run, input the IP address of your DNS-323 (eg: "\\192.168.1.101", not including the quotes), select your volume (eg: "volume_1"), right-click on it, select "map network drive" and remap your drive to the letter you want.

Of course, neither of these suggestions clears up the fact that you are losing this mapping, but at least you can re-establish it fairly easily.  Good luck...
