Hi,
I just bought a DIR-855 (Hardware Version: A2 Firmware Version: 1.12EU) after using Linksys WRT350N.
Setting up DHCP and providing DNS information into the Linksys was a breeze.
I was able to assign my own internal DNS servers to the DHCP clients (this part of the router worked like a charm) and my internal DNS servers were able to resolve internal/external ip/hostnames.
Now I'm trying to figure out on how to do this with the 855.
I've got the following topology:
1) ISP router (dynamic IP + DNS server addresses provided to router).
2) DIR-855, with no primary and/or secondary DNS server setup, with router setting "Enable DNS relay".
3) GB-switch
4) Wired (virtual)servers/PC's
In this setup I:
- can resolve all internet related ip/names on my wireless PC clients.
- can ping my other (wired) servers.
- cannot access my servers using hostnames (understandable as external DNS server cannot know about my internal systems).
- On my internal DNS servers, can resolve internal ip/hostnames, but no external ip/hostnames
What I would like to:
- Assign my internal DNS servers (primary + backup) to the DHCP clients.
- My internal DNS server be able to resolve external ip/hostnames
Is there some firewall setup to be done for my internal DNS servers to be able to resolve external ip/hostnames as it looks like a firewall setting.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Michael
